On Friday, February 28, 2025, the Promenade Playhouse in Los Angeles came alive with soul, history, and heart as LA Performing Arts Productions (LAPAP) presented its inspiring production, "Gifted – A Night of Storytelling Through Music, Dance, and Drama." Directed and narrated by the incomparable Boise Holmes, along with Co-Producers Adrian English Washington and Samuel "Joey" Alleyne. This unforgettable evening honored legendary African American voices through performance and passion.
From the moment the doors opened at 7 PM, guests—including esteemed figures such as Councilwoman Angie Reyes English and Consul General Joy A. Newbold of the Bahamas in Los Angeles—filled the theatre with anticipation. The two-hour journey took the audience through time, reflecting on the enduring impact of icons like Langston Hughes, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, James Earl Jones, Nat King Cole, and many more.
The showcase featured a vibrant array of creative expressions, including powerful monologues, dynamic poetry, soul-stirring singing, heartfelt dance, and even comedic flair. The talent on stage was unmatched, with a cast led by Boise Holmes and featuring Tiffany N. Travillion, Rochester Jacobs Jr., Reign Norton, Hunter Gerard, Rosie Lorraine, Nagode Cheri, Chaz Lamar Shepherd, Bishop Freeman, Blossom Freeman, and Randolph "Randy" Ellis.
Presented by LAPAP, this performance was more than entertainment—it was a movement. As a nonprofit dedicated to fostering creativity and empowering youth through the arts, LAPAP used this event to remind the community of the importance of expression, representation, and inspiration.
In a world that urgently needs healing and unity, the artists and creators behind "Gifted" offered a glowing example of what it means to use God-given talents to uplift and ignite change. Attendees left not only entertained but inspired, with renewed hope and a call to support the next generation of storytellers.
Thank you to all who attended, supported, and believed in our mission. With your help, LAPAP continues to build a future where creativity has no limits and every voice has a stage.
