About the event

"Uncle Tom: The True Story of Josiah Henson"

“I will use my freedom well.” Those were the words spoken by an escaped slave, shortly before he touched the Canadian soil, as a free man. Uncle Tom. The slanderous name that is the worst thing to call an African-American. But what is the origin of the term? Who was Uncle Tom? He was Josiah Henson, a true American hero. Born into slavery. Sold twice by the age on 9. Josiah’s life was doomed. But he never gave up.  He became a preacher. He escaped enslavement by fleeing with his wife and their four children, to Canada. He learned to read and write. Despite writing an autobiography, starting a community, and returning to the south , risking capture, he helped to free nearly 200 souls using the Underground Railroad. That is Uncle Tom. That is Josiah Henson. Now his incredible story, the truth of his incredible life’s journey, is told.

About Jeremiah

Jeremiah Core is from Boston, Massachusetts. His acting journey began seven years ago as a background actor in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after he answered a casting call for the mini-series "Waco." He picked up a dropped set of sides and acted out the scenes every day, falling in love with acting. While still on active duty in the Army, he found a way to take acting classes 200 miles away in Albuquerque. He acted in four plays at the El Paso Playhouse, and the moment his Army career ended, he set out for Albuquerque, sleeping in his car and auditioning for everything he could find.

He was soon signed by Lynette O'Connor and the O'agency in Albuquerque. He began his studies with Lora Cunningham online during COVID, with Tasha Smith Actors Workshop, and he was a student at Stella Adler Art of Acting Studio. Among his roles are a co-starring part in "Roswell, New Mexico" episode "Wild Wild West," and appearances in the films "Dead For A Dollar" and "Opus." His Army service included three tours in Iraq.

Jeremiah loves to read, write, and volunteer with children. You can keep up with him on his Instagram @jerimiahcores617. He thanks you for your support and hopes you enjoy the show.
